Yardley, Pa. (PRWEB) August 18, 2007 -- The winners of the annual Global Traveler Wines on the Wing International Business Class Airline Wine Competition have been announced in the magazine's August 2007 issue.
A total of 25 airlines from around the world submitted 120 wines for judging in four categories: Top 10 Red Wines; Top 10 White Wines; Top 10 Champagnes; and Top 10 Overall.
Taipei-based EVA Airways was voted No. 1 in the Top 10 Overall category. Claiming the top spot in the red wine group was the Gevrey-Chambertin 2003 served by Thai Airways. American Airlines' J. Wegeler-Erben Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese 2004 was named the No. 1 white wine. Air Tahiti Nui's Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve Particuliere, NV, was the top Champagne.
The panel of judges included 36 wine experts, chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers and members of the wine trade. The judging was held at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York on May 15, 2007, and was directed by Eunice Fried, GT wine columnist.
"Wines on the Wing was, as always, a success for the magazine. We are the only magazine in our niche to conduct such a survey. With our continued focus on both the travel and the lifestyle of the frequent business traveler, we think it is important to offer our readers perspective on all the important aspects of airline travel," said Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO of Global Traveler. "And, yet again, Eunice Fried, a seasoned expert in the wine industry, has done a wonderful job coordinating the competition and bringing the results to our readers."
